sweating in the cold
I’m still sweating, waiting for my grades to come in. I’m particularly worried about stats, of course. Apparently the teacher really liked my part of the group presentation, but I’m not so sure he likes my final exam…
Last night was supposed to be Mekare’s Christmas Concert with the beginning orchestra at her school. We were in a rush to get there, me and Ana and Mekare (Arielle was working and Matt was splattered from working, so we’d brought the video camera). Mekare got her violin out of the back seat and slammed the door- right on her thumb.
She smashed it good. It was purple and bleeding all over the place when we got inside to take a better look at it. Her teacher said he certainly wasn’t going to make her play. I called Matt and let him know what had happened and that we were going to the InstaCare.
“I can take care of it myself,” he said.
I reminded him that, in spite of his military field- medic training and his meticulous handling of delicate things, we still lacked the gauze and splint and we hadn’t seen the first aid kit since we moved.
As it turned out, she cracked the tip of her top phalange. She’ll most likely lose the thumbnail.
She was very upset about missing the concert, so I gave her some of my tiramisu from the Macaroni Grill that I’d gotten earlier when a friend took me out to lunch on the spur of the moment. But that didn’t cheer her up nearly as much as when Matt gave her a hug.
It doesn’t look like she’ll be able to play violin for a while, since the splint has to stay on for a couple of weeks. So maybe I’ll have the teacher make her do music theory…
I was worried about our budget and concerned we wouldn’t be able to get a tree this year, but we managed to get one today. It’s beautiful and just what I wanted. Unfortunately, I can’t decorate it yet. Why? Because Matt needs to put the lights on it first, and he doesn’t want to do that until tomorrow. And Matt doesn’t just put lights on a tree. He weaves hundreds of lights over and through all the branches. It takes at least an hour, if not longer, and requires munchkin help.
I cleaned up at the After Christmas sales last year, and I’m loving it now that I can’t afford to go out and buy ornaments and such. I stocked up on as many white LED lights as I could get and got lots of new ornaments, mostly white and silver. I love white decorated trees (not the white tree but white decorations)- like Matt’s mother used to do every year and his oldest sister has taken on the tradition- but no matter how hard I try I’m just to scatterbrained to stick with a theme. I like to put fake birds and fake fruit in my tree. I even got some fake fungi for Matt. I saw a white owl ornament I want to get…. I hope it’s on sale, and if it is it will be the only ornament I buy this year.
I’ve been light- headed and dizzy from a sinus infection all day. I’ve had it for week, but today has been particularly bad. I think I’m going to go take some decongestants again, and save you all from my jumbled, meandering blah blah blah.

You are such a talented photographer. All the pictures are gorgeous. May favorite was the 2nd one.
So sorry to hear about Mekare’s thumb. I can commiserate. I’ve had mine in a splint along with my left wrist for 4 months now from a damaged tendon.
Matt and I decorate the tree the same way with the lights. Mine is decorated with years of collecting the old style ornaments are grandparents used to use. Colored lights and all.
Sending good vibes for your final grade dear friend. I’m almost positive you will have end up with a high grade. You work too hard not to. (Hugs)Indigo

Ouch. My thumb hurts just thinking about hers. *KISS* Maybe that will make it better.
Your grades will be great – your pictures are lovely – as always – now if we could just get the Money Fairy to shit some for ya.
